Then Came Bronson The Mod Squad 12 Oclock High
Blog about the famous 1960's TV shows, ask questions, talk about your favorite episodes, share these great stories.
Entry for September 23, 2007

Welcome to my blog, I invite you to start a running blog of observations from you about; Then Came Bronson, The Mod Squad and the World War Two TV series 12 O'clock High.  All three of these programs exhibited honor, love, commitment, friendship and doing the right thing. I also invite you to provide comments or suggestion about the website, and certainly any typo's or information discrepancies you find.

As Jim Bronson would say, "Hang in there", and Linc would tell you to, "Keep the Faith" and General Savage proclaims, "It's your airplane".

I was eleven years old when a TV movie and series called "Then Came Bronson" riveted me to my parents television in 1969. It planted a seed that grows to this day.

Looking back through the years I find myself smiling at how foolhardy it was to do what I did before I went to college. Yup, I hit the road without destination in mind. I road a pre-unit 1958 Triumph 650 rather than a Harley, but the gear was setup the same way and the experiences I had set the foundation for decades of 2-wheeled travel, on and off the roadway.
As I prepare for a dirtbike ride through the Mexican Sierra Madres in a few weeks I once again reflect on the impact "Then Came Bronson" had on me then, and how it still brings forth the urge to seek the next adventure.

Thanks for the website and for providing a place to express my fondness for a short lived series with long running stimulation.

In 1973 I took a 9,000 mile trip, partially motivated by TCB. (I thought I remembered Wayfaring Stranger as one of the TCB songs. I rode a Triumph Trident at that time, later road a HD 883, and now ride a 1988 Honda Shadow which is very comfortable at my current age.

I must have been all of age 13 when I fell in love with Jim Bronson and his bike. The song Wayfaring Stranger has stuck in my head for the remaining 40 years. thanks for the website
I would love to let Jim Bronson know just how much he influenced a young Christian southern girl, by just giving her a song to sing for years. whenever I get down and out, I sing it to remember that this world only leads to the next. Thank you again.

Blog Gang,

Sorry that I got behind on my blogging.

Al, I too once had a Triumph but mine was a Bonneville 650 (1971 I think), that three lung job was really weird back then, but then the Mach 3 Kawasaki hit the streets, color it gonnnnnnnnne.

Debbie, I sent you details on getting the CD, the series canceled because the character of Jim was going to become more radical, and Michael Parks would not go along with the new scripts.

David, Glad you are a B-17 buff, I have sent you emails on the details to fly on all 78 missions.

I am so sad about the passing of Earle Hagen who wrote the great theme for "The Mod Squad". I'm looking to buy the sheet music to the melancoly outro for the show. Does anyone know where I can buy that music?

As a 12 year old fan of the show, I wanted a H-D Sportster more than anything. I had a Honda 50 at the time (the bike Jim rode was an XL 883cc) which left plenty of room for growth. I even tucked a bed roll under the headlight of my mighty minibike just in case I wanted to camp somewhere along that journey down the alley to the next street over and beyond to the big empty field. I made it to a Honda 550 four before I got married in 1985 and my bride asked that I not ride anymore. I agreed since I wanted a family more than I wanted a motorcycle. Two days later, my dad pointed out that the two things weren't mutually exclusive and that he had both. I'd been duped! After 20 years of shameless and daily begging, my wife let me out of my promise and I purchased a 2003 Harley-Davidson Sportster. This was a dream come true. She had 5,500 miles on her when I got her 2 1/2 years ago and today she has over 17,000 miles. I've added so much chrome that my wife threatened an intervention. I ride every day that I can. She has the same "peanut" tank that Jim Bronson's Sporty had (available since the models inception in 1958) and with drag pipes, pretty much the same sound. This is the smallest bike that Harley makes and while a wonderful in town ride, it would take a tough (and young) man to ride her across the country. My 15 year old daughter and I ride about 40 or 50 miles and we are done. Still, deep in my heart I am wearing a watch cap, riding across the desert on my way to my next good deed. I'm not sure where the kid sitting behind me wearing the pink helmet with the dark visor that's always down (day or night), texting her friends with one hand and scrolling away on her iPod with the other that keeps calling me "daddy", fits into my 1969 daydream. Maybe I have just rescued the Pink Power Ranger from her wicked mother, The Red Queen and must take her to the Land of Starbucks before The Evil Matriarch can ground her for not doing the dishes and having a sassy mouth. I'll work on the background story a little more. This version makes me feel like a little Italian guy named Mario, jumping over spinning turtles...

Michael Parks was the singer for the theme song "Long Lonesome Highway". On my website you can see the album LP cover and I have the songs on CD.

Hey man I dig your site and just Love TCB. Discovered the series after a spontaneous memory flash to my childhood sitting in the living room with my parents. Out of nowhere came the theme music and the story of this beautiful modern day's sage. I don't know why but I searched the web for the collection and bought it. I re-watch the episodes constantly. My favorites are the circle of time, the 99 mile circle, a pickin and a singin, gleam of the eagle mind, mateing dance for tender grass. I think it's the pace, the open landscapes, the characters, the more innocent time and Jim himself. Great site and maybe someday I'll see all these great places Jim used to travel.

I know the "REAL" Jim Bronson (that of course is an alias - Hollywood name). This is based on actual man's life. Do a google and I'm sure you'll find him. He's quite a character - even in his now 70s.
